DELL XPS Laptop Series With Delightful Design And AI

Last Thursday, Dell unveiled its latest XPS 2024 lineup, drawing inspiration from the popular XPS 13 Plus launched at CES 2022. The new XPS series has undergone a substantial design evolution, featuring a unified and minimalistic aesthetic crafted from CNC machined aluminum and Gorilla Glass 3, now available in Graphite and Platinum tones.

Dell has retained the XPS 13 model for the new series while replacing the XPS 15 and XPS 17 with the XPS 14 and XPS 16. Positioned as flagship devices, these laptops come with premium prices starting at $1300 for the XPS 13, $1700 for the XPS 14, and $1900 for the XPS 16.

A notable design shift includes the integration of the edge-to-edge keyboard, a feature previously seen in the XPS 13 Plus, now becoming a standard in the XPS series. However, the relocation of speakers to the sides may draw attention from developers and designers accustomed to physical keys.

The XPS lineup boasts multiple display options with ultrathin bezels, offering FHD+ or QHD+ resolution LCDs with a variable refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 120Hz. The XPS 13 offers a 3K OLED variant, while the XPS 14 and XPS 16 provide 3.2k OLED and 4K+ OLED options, respectively.

Under the hood, the inclusion of Intel’s Core Ultra processors, equipped with a CPU, integrated graphics, and a neural processor (NPU), brings AI acceleration to the XPS series. The NPU not only enhances AI workloads but also contributes to extending battery life. Microsoft Copilot in Windows 11 comes standard on these laptops, and DELL added a  new Copilot key for easy access to the Microsoft generative AI assistant.

Dell has also heeded user feedback, upgrading the webcam from 720p to 1080p to enhance the video conferencing experience.

The XPS 13 comes with  Intel Arc discrete graphics, while the XPS 14 and XPS 16 offer options for Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 and RTX 4070 discrete graphics, respectively.

The XPS 14  support up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 165H CPU, 64GB of RAM, and a 4TB SSD.

Meanwhile, the XPS 16 takes performance to the next level, featuring up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, 64GB of RAM, 4TB of SSD, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 with 8GB of GDDR6. The increased power demands are met with a substantial 99.5WHr battery and a robust 130W USB-C charger, bringing the weight to 4.8 pounds with the optional 16.3-inch 4K OLED display.

Dell has not disclosed specific availability dates for the XPS series, letting us know that the XPS laptops will be released “soon.”
